Fairytale Royal Wedding

§ 0

Here are some of my favorite pictures from the magical event:

"You look beautiful."

That dress...that effing dress.  Love that it was Sarah Burton for McQueen.
Pippa's dress was amazing, too.

One of my favorite parts about this wasn't just the church, but the trees.  Kate did good bringing those in.

Money shot!

Helpful Harry.  He was so sweet throughout the ceremony.

Yes, I was one of those crazy people who stayed up until 3 A.M. to watch the wedding.  I wanted to experience it firsthand- after all, this is my generation's Diana!  I'm glad I did.  It's not just about the romance- it's about it being such an important historical event (and, ok, I guess it's like 80% about the romance)!  I loved every minute of it.

Secret agenda.

I've wanted this blog to be more fashion oriented for some time now.  I finally got back into the swing of things, and had my photog friend (Brittany from my 30 for 30 photos) snap a shot of me today!

This outfit was super-comfortable.  Since it was still rainy today, I decided to break out the boots.  I must admit, I am a repeat offender- I wore this shirt last night to my cousin's birthday/easter celebration party.   Oh well, I'll ask forgiveness of the fashion gods later.  As for the jacket- I haven't worn it in forever and I just found it in my closet.  I love it; it's so military-style/victorian-ish!

Day 27: My day job vs. My passion.

Well, you obviously know by now that my passion is writing.  I don't really have a day job, unless being a student counts.  And I think it does.

I have about four notebooks filled with ideas i'll have for a story or something (beep- nerd alert) and my school notes are covered with scribbles of new material I've thought of that day.  Sometimes I'll just sit in class, writing, not even paying attention to what the teacher is saying.

So basically...yeah, that's a problem. Haha.

So I think I have my life figured out.

Sunday, April 24, 2011 § 0

I am going to go to college.

I am going to publish a book.

I am going to spend a long, long time in Europe.

I am going to buy a house in a big plot of countryside.

I am going to have a horse.

I'm going to keep publishing books.

I'm going to marry my soulmate.

I'm going to get old.

Happy Easter!

§ 0

Happy Easter to everyone out in the blogosphere.  It's a wonderful, rainy day!  Last night we had a storm so crazy that the wind alone ripped off a hunk of our fence.  We had to make sure our dog didn't run into our neighbor's yard!  Driving around today, we saw that we weren't the only ones that that had happened to, so I hope everyone's ok and that the damage isn't too severe.

To celebrate Easter as well as my cousin's birthday, we went over to her house and had a little soiree.  My sister did my makeup, and she tried out a cat-eye using only eyeshadow and no liner, which I've only seen on celebs:

However, my sister's attempt was successful and made my eyes look awesome! I don't usually wear this much makeup so this was a nice change from the ordinary.

Thank ya, Molly!

DAY 26 (I listed day 22 twice.  This is not Day 25, it's 26!): A list of things I'm thankful for:

1. My family (obviously)

2. My best friend, Shannon.

3. My yearbook crew

4. Whatever it is that's wrong with me that's taking me to Colorado instead of plunking me in a Texas school (or right with me)

5. Vampire Weekend and Ezra's sweet voice
(Thank you for blessing him with that voice, Lord)

6. And, last but not least, the fact that DanRad is still single.

Someone up there's saving him for me.

Have a wonderful Sunday,
Cooper

Water for Elephants.

Saturday, April 23, 2011 § 0

Remember when I talked about how I was reading Water for Elephants here?  Well, it soon became one of my absolute favorite books.  I convinced my sister to read it and so now that the movie is out, my sister, my mom and I all went to the Colleyville Cinema Grill to see it.  We were so excited that we arrived an hour early, and we were first in line for the movie theater.  That's dedication, folks.

After seeing the first trailer, I was so afraid that the film was going to veer away from the story like so many other book-to-movie adaptations have.  However, there weren't many changes, aside from a handful of scenes nearing the end, and most of them weren't a big deal anyway.

Christoph Waltz was the most perfect August there ever was.   After that terrible scene with Rosie, when Jacob confronts August in his train car, I was literally seething in my seat, shaking my head at the screen, muttering to myself, "Don't listen to a word he says, Jacob!"  Yes, he literally got that much of a rise out of me.  Amazing!

Reese Witherspoon was absolutely gorgeous, especially her performance scenes when she's doing her thing in the big top.  I thought she was great for Marlena.

And judging by the first picture, I'm guessing I don't need to tell you how gorgeous Robert Pattinson was in this movie.  After the show, my mom turned to us and said, 'Edward looked so hot!'

Maybe it was because I read the book, but I had a lot of emotional reactions to this movie (especially the menagerie scene at the end- I won't say much for those who haven't read the book, but my heart was pounding the entire time!).  There's nothing like seeing one of your favorite books, something you've imagined out in your head as you read, come to life.

It was a great movie, and you should all go see it!

Day 24: Something you would find in my bag.
1. Wallet
2. Car keys
3. Phone
4. Ipod
5. Trash (candy wrappers & receipts, haha)
6. Whatever book I'm reading at the time

And not much else.  I don't carry much, and yet my purse still gets terribly cluttered.  How is that possible, you ask?  I make it possible!

Happy Saturday,
Cooper

Crazy stupid love.

Wednesday, April 20, 2011 § 0

I absolutely cannot WAIT to see this movie when it comes out in theaters.  I mean, sure, it looks a little bit cheesy, but obviously it's going to have substance- there ain't no movie starring Steve Carrell, Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling, and Emma Stone that don' have no substance (ok, I'm done with ghetto talk now).

Just decide for yourself, will you?

See, I told you. It looks amazing.

Day 23: my favorite quote? Sheesh. I've sort of got a lot. I love looking up quotes, and I write down all of the ones that mean something to me or change my mood. I'll write down a few of the ones that are especially important to me:

"How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live." -Henry David Thoreau

"I, not events, have the power to make me happy or unhappy today. I can choose which it shall be. Yesterday is dead, tomorrow hasn't arrived yet. I have just one day, today, and I'm going to be happy in it." -Groucho Marx

"They should tell you when you're born: have a suitcase heart, be ready to travel." -Gabrielle Zevin

I have so many more that I love, and occasionally I'll post them on here, but those are the few that have stuck with me.

Another thing I want to mention is that today is the anniversary of my Grandpa's death. I miss all of his wonderful stories about his childhood and his life with his kids and with his loving wife, my grandmother, but I know he's up in heaven, watching me create some stories of my own.

I love you, Grandpa, and I miss you to bits.

Have a glorious Wednesday,
Cooper

Listening to this song.

Tuesday, April 19, 2011 § 0

'I broke down in horror at you standing there
The glow from the moon
Shone through cracks in your hair.
I shouted with passion,
"I love you so much"
But feeling my skin, it was cold to the touch.
You whispered "where are you?"
I questioned your doubt
But soon realized, you were talking to God now'

-White Lies, Unfinished Business

I love songs with stories behind them.  White Lies's album is RIFE with story-songs.  Love them.

Dilemma.

Monday, April 18, 2011 § 0

I just got my vintage cutoff shorts from Zora Belle on Etsy and they look great!  I can't wait to wear them.  My only problem is.....

They are pretty big on me.  A sizable amount of large-ness.  I don't know why I ordered them so big; I forgot they were men's sizes and not women's.

Soooo my mother has slapped 'em in the wash, using hot water to shrink 'em, but if that doesn't work then I'm perplexed.  If you have any suggestions, leave a comment!

Day 22.  Something I crave:

Ummmmm.....good deals.  Macaroni and cheese (all the time).  Chocolate chip pancakes.  And....adventure (haha).

Can you tell I'm getting a bit tired of this?  No more 30-day-things for Cooper for a while.

Day 22.

Sunday, April 17, 2011 § 0

Something that makes me different from everyone else:

I asked my sister (since it was hard to come up with one on my own; it's hard to be objective when we look at ourselves, am I right?) and she told me that what makes me different is that I'm well beyond my years.

In other words, I'm a bit of an old soul.

I absolutely hate it when people call themselves that and it's not true, but I guess when it comes to me I can see that.  For one, I have a tender love for vintage/vintage inspired items.

Example: my prom dress from last year.

Absolutely loved that thing, even if it did squeeze the life out of me.  The lady I bought it from told me it was from the '70s.  AWESOME.

I guess another reason why is that some of my favorite movies were made decades ago.

Some I recommend:

#1
Lili (1953)
"Based on the story by Paul Gallico, Lili stars Leslie Caron as the title character, a 16-year-old waif who runs off to join a carnival. Embittered, crippled puppeteer Mel Ferrer treats Lili with contempt; only by speaking through his puppets is Ferrer able to express his genuine love for the girl. Before this happens, however, Caron must overcome her crush on magician Jean-Pierre Aumont, who is married to the contentious Zsa Zsa Gabor." (written by Hal Erickson on Fandango.com)

So good! Leslie Caron's character (and hair) is adorable and Ferrer is so bitter but you end up loving him.

#2
Good News (1947)
"The scene is Tait College, where everyone is in a blue funk over the dilemma of gridiron star Tom (Stanley Smith). Since the only thing he's ever passed is a football, Tom is in danger of flunking out before the Big Game. Plain-looking Connie (Mary Lawlor) is enlisted to tutor Tom through his final exams, and in the process the two students fall in love -- much to the dismay of campus vamp Patricia (Lola Lane). Managing to finagle a marriage proposal out of Tom, it looks as though Patricia will emerge triumphant, but all is set aright during the lavish Technicolor finale." (Hal Erickson, Fandango.com)

First of all, Connie's character is hilarious- during the song, 'Lucky In Love', she sings: 'Some girls are gay/ Know what to say/ But when I talk I scare the fellas away.'

Love that girl.  And the fashion in this movie is over-the-top '20s (*cough* Tommy's bell-bottoms *cough*) but so top-notch.  Love it all.

#3
Meet Me In St. Louis (1944)

"In the year before the 1904 St Louis World's Fair, the four Smith daughters learn lessons of life and love, even as they prepare for a reluctant move to New York." (IMDB.com)

Judy Garland is so cute in this movie, and young! We watched this around Christmastime since a chunk of the movie takes place during the holidays, but it's a year-round film.  Love it.

Others that I love but am too lazy to find pictures of and describe: On The Town, Funny Face, Holiday Inn, An American in Paris, Roman Holiday, Summer Stock, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, etc etc etc.

That's something a little different about me.

By the way, my mom bought me an adorable hat (modeled after the one Julia Roberts wears in Eat, Pray, Love) the other day at World Market, and I felt very chic and summery wearing it around Target today.

^That's at Cotton Patch.  Delish lunch!

Had a fun day today.  I told myself that I would read our required reading material for English instead of beginning it and Sparknote-ing the rest like I usually do (terrible habit), but I've fallen in love with a series that I can't extract my attention from!  It's The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.  And though Life of Pi is very interesting, I've already started City of Ashes.  I'm a terrible student.

Regardless, I did stumble across a quote from Life of Pi the other day that I thought was pretty beautiful:

"The reason death sticks so closely to life isn't biological necessity—it's envy. Life is so beautiful that death has fallen in love with it, a jealous, possessive love that grabs at what it can. But life leaps over oblivion lightly, losing only a thing or two of no importance, and gloom is but the passing shadow of a cloud."
Chapter One

Hope you have a spectacular night,
Cooper

Day 21: Something that makes me happy.

Friday, April 15, 2011 § 0

There are so many things.  For example, the rain:

That of which we haven't gotten much of lately.  I miss it dearly.

http://rianaaa.tumblr.com/

And then there's Harry Potter, which I just watched with my family:
Makes the real world seem ten times more magical, even if Hogwarts isn't real....

Thinking of CSU makes me happy:
(This is Shannon's picture)

But above all else, I'd probably have to go the mushy route and say my family.  I'm so grateful that I get to live with a group of people that are just as strange as me.

But they're also wonderful.  And kind.  And supportive.  And the best family anyone could have.

Night, all,
Cooper

Twenty twenty twenty.

Wednesday, April 13, 2011 § 0

It's day twenty!  Only ten more days to go on my 30 days of blogging.  I really regret doing it so soon after my 30 for 30 challenge, only because it means that I feel an obligation to blog like, every single day.  Which I don't mind at all, but I feel as though people get annoyed with that...but I digress.

Before I do my Day 20 challenge, I am going to share with you what happened to me a fortnight ago (is that right? I mean yesterday): My super-stylish photog friend Kate Dillard texted me and told me that her stylish friend was moving out of her apartment and was having an "everything must go" moment.  Yes, that means clothes.  So of course I had to jet over there ASAP!  After some perusing, this is what I found:

(a bit blurry, but it's a navy blue cardigan and the crest says 'hide and seek')

^This print's on a skirt.  You like?

Aaaaand here's one of the pieces in action:

Paired with my new fave skirt, oxfords, and an adorable side braid, this outfit makes me smile (as you can see in the picture above).

As for my letter to someone, it would probably go a little something like this:

Dearest Daniel (Radcliffe),

My, how you've grown.  You've gone from a strange-looking and yet adorable british 10-year-old to a muscular, hot-as-heck 22-year-old.   While you don't ever regret doing the Harry Potter films, you constantly work to make sure that's not all that people associate you with....for example, The December Boys, The Woman in Black....Equus...

But let's not talk about Equus (I don't think anyone wants to talk about Equus).  Let's talk about the fact that you're not only an established, hard-working, not crazy actor, but you also work with charities such as the Lupus Foundation of America, Rebuilding Sri Lanka, and more.  I just think that's sweet.

And I think you're sweet.  So let's get together.

Cordially yours,
Cooper Calamity

Have a wonderful Wednesday,
Cooper

My favorite poem.

Monday, April 11, 2011 § 0

Mad Girl’s Love Song
Sylvia Plath
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead;
I lift my lids and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
The stars go waltzing out in blue and red,
And arbitrary blackness gallops in:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
God topples from the sky, hell’s fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan’s men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
I fancied you’d return the way you said,
But I grow old and I forget your name.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
I should have loved a thunderbird instead;
At least when spring comes they roar back again.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)
