Dorm Life.

Sunday, October 30, 2011 § 0

Lately, I've been covering dorm life via vlog for CSU's paper, The Collegian.  I wanted to share my YouTube channel with you so you could catch all my lovely adventures here in Parmalee.  It's a magical, magical place....

Life With Madi

Proof; that's college life for ya there.

Happy Sunday,

Murder Mystery, DAHLING.

§ 0

Last night I went to a murder-mystery party put on by CSU, with a costume contest and free plane tickets to whoever's team solved the crime.  Needless to say, there was a Goodwill trip that needed to be made, and I ended up finding this getup:

I kind of really love this dress, and the hat wasn't bad, either.  I dressed for a wedding murder, unaware that the costume contest required you to actually be portraying someone, so a friend of mine said Anastasia at the last minute and so I told the crowd I was Russian royalty.  They bought it.

While it was a lovely night (and I do recommend going to a murder mystery party if you've never been to one before, it's so much fun), we did not end up winning the plane tickets.  I think the memory alone was something worth winning anyway.

Oh my god, I can't believe I just said that.  I'm not a college student so much as a 67 year old woman.  I'm going to go curl up in my hand-knitted sweater and do needlepoint while listening to Sarah McLaughlin and petting my cats.  So long and happy weekend.

I was born to live here.

We had a freak snowstorm last night, and it's turned everything still and gorgeous....for example, take a look at the vid below (which is a complation of three vids I took: the first one is from last night, and the other two are from this morning.  I went a little crazy):

I love the snow. Can't you tell?

Throwback...

Tuesday, October 25, 2011 § 0

So I'm going to a murder mystery party on Friday, and we get to dress up.  There's actually a costume contest!  Because of this, me and my friends hit up the good ol' Goodwill and I found this little number:

It's an old fashioned, top-notch tam and I'm going to wear it with my costume.  I found this gorgeous, long yellow chiffon dress and a white knit shawl and it's going to be great.

I'll be sure to post pictures this Friday, for sure.

By the way, tomorrow it's supposed to snow 10 inches.  I love Colorado.

what I'm loving this week.

I've noticed that I've been pretty scatterbrained recently...there's been so much going on that blogging has been pretty far down on my to-do list.  But right now it's one A.M., my roommate is gone, and I'm feeling like a late night.  Therefore, I shall blog!

I figure another installment of what I'm loving this week should brighten up Cooper Calamity's boring page.  Admittedly, it hasn't been too too bad, but I doubt you want to hear another rant about my homework or my week or anything like that.  In fact, let's just jump right in to what I'm loving.  Let's do that.

NUMERO UNO
This week's episode of Parks and Recreation.

Donna knows how to do it.  It was just a very hilarious episode and it's good that my roommate is away this weekend because I was laughing uproariously and it's quite late.  I would have woken her up....with all my laughter.....yes.  Okay.

NUMERO DEUX

This book.  Okay, so I haven't read it yet, but I bought it this week and I like that I did that because it has gotten rave reviews and they're making a movie of it with Emma Watson in it and I just can't deal with how awesome it all sounds.  I can't wait to crack open this puppy.

NUMMER TRE
This week's weather forecast.  I mean, 59?? I'm so excited; I want it to be cold with ALL OF MY HEART. I need to break out my fuzzy puffed coat.

QUATERNARIUS

The 2012 Volkswagen Beetle.  I WANT IT.  It's so beautiful and gorgeous and I would even give up my beloved wonderful-piece-of-junk Volvo for it.  THAT'S saying something.

Those are my loves for this week!  Let me know if you've got anything to add to the list.  Also, check out my new Life With Madi channel for the Collegian's vlog series here.

Until who knows when,
Cooper

wow.

Sunday, October 9, 2011 § 0

it's been a while since I last posted!  I suppose I've been busy...there's been meetings, and NBC Thursdays, mug painting, and movie night with the suite mate (I finally watched The King's Speech; it was great).  Oh, and there was this:

For my vlog for the newspaper here, I wanted to do one about getting out of your dorm.  So, I planned on going to Old Town and taking videos of me messing around in shops, dancing in the street, engaging in regular shenanigans.  Well, that was before it started to rain.  And before my camera's memory card decided not to work.

Luckily, my friend had her camera with her, and we said 'to hell with the rain' and shot the videos anyway.  I'll post the video after it gets put up on the Collegian's website!

I hope your weekend was equally as riveting as mine (and by riveting, I mean relaxing.  I don't think I left my dorm today except to get food....and I ain't even mad!)

Until tomorrow,
Cooper

the denim on denim QUEEN

Wednesday, October 5, 2011 § 2

That's what I told my roommate the other day: I am officially the denim on denim queen.

On Monday, I wore my denim shirt buttoned up with a scarf and my skinny black jeans, and then today I wore this little number:

IT'S MY FAVORITE COMBO, OKAY?

Try it out.  It feels good.

Adios,

Ravenclaw house. Non-Potterheads, stay away.

Saturday, October 1, 2011 § 0

I was let in early to Pottermore.com, the 'online reading experience' that takes you through all seven Harry Potter books, puts you in a house (Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff), gives you a wand, lets you read exclusive clips of J.K. Rowling's writing, etc etc.  So, basically, a Potter-head's dream.

(WARNING:  a non-Potter fan may not understand the next few paragraphs)
The thing about Pottermore that I've been looking forward to the most has been the sorting ceremony.  Based on my personality traits, I've always considered myself a Hufflepuff.  Out of the four houses, Hufflepuff house (think Cedric Diggory) has the most friendly people, the most caring, the 'finders', all that good stuff.  Hufflepuffs are not necessarily the most badass people, but you know....neither am I.  Sadly.

Therefore, you can imagine my surprise when this popped up on the screen:

Ravenclaws are smart; think Luna Lovegood (who is my absolute favorite character in the world).  I've always thought that Ravenclaw is like the Harvard of Harry Potter- completely unattainable for the B-average students such as myself.  But I've always wanted to be a Ravenclaw: they seem like the dark horses of the wizard world (yeah, Luna could take down whoever she wanted to in a battle of wits, no doubt).

But as I read the house description, a lot of things popped out at me that made me really identify with being in this house.  Here's my favorite part of the house description:

Awesome, right?

And then I realized Ravenclaws are not necessarily book smart (I mean, Hermione's a the smartest one up in this joint and she's a Gryffindor).  They're the ones who invent things, who stare off into space, get lost in a thought, and are just pretty much curious about everything.

I'm always doodling, I'm always writing story excerpts and ideas in the margins of my notes, I'm always getting lost in some over-analyzation.  I think I've definitely been sorted into the right house.

Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure!!!

Adios,
Cooper
