Day 29: Favorite TV Shows

Nothing, NOTHING beats Pushing Daisies.  And here's why:

Lee Pace as Ned the Piemaker

He's so adorable in so many ways.  Ned is shy, vulnerable, and sweet and yet can be protective and authoritative (sexy) when he needs to be.  

The Ned/Chuck Dynamic


Seriously, was there ever a cuter TV couple?  

They can't touch, otherwise she'll die (Ned can bring people back to life for one minute otherwise someone else has to die in their place, and if he touches that person again they will die forever: she was brought to life for more than a minute).  They find other ways to be a couple, and it's so clear that they love each other throughout the entire series.  

 The Writing



It's hilarious.  'Nuff said. 


The Plot


I pretty much already explained to you the basics: he touches someone, they come to life, he touches them again, they're dead, etc etc.  But the way they incorporate this sense of magic into the series and also make it this hilarious cop show is just amazing to me.  I hate shows about police work and crime fighting and Law and Order, what have you, and yet I still love this show.  


And last but not least: 
Chuck's Style 




She wears a ton of 1950's swing dresses, bright colors, cloche hats and flowered headbands, and classic silhouettes.  She is my style icon.  


If you've never seen this show, catch an episode.  Sadly (so sadly) it wasn't picked up after the second season, and yet I still watch the episodes over and over again (but you must be eating pie whilst watching).  The colors and style and writing and romance of this show makes it my favorite of all time.

I've wanted this blog to be more fashion oriented for some time now.  I finally got back into the swing of things, and had my photog friend (Brittany from my 30 for 30 photos) snap a shot of me today!


This outfit was super-comfortable.  Since it was still rainy today, I decided to break out the boots.  I must admit, I am a repeat offender- I wore this shirt last night to my cousin's birthday/easter celebration party.   Oh well, I'll ask forgiveness of the fashion gods later.  As for the jacket- I haven't worn it in forever and I just found it in my closet.  I love it; it's so military-style/victorian-ish!

Day 27: My day job vs. My passion. 

Well, you obviously know by now that my passion is writing.  I don't really have a day job, unless being a student counts.  And I think it does.  

I have about four notebooks filled with ideas i'll have for a story or something (beep- nerd alert) and my school notes are covered with scribbles of new material I've thought of that day.  Sometimes I'll just sit in class, writing, not even paying attention to what the teacher is saying.

So basically...yeah, that's a problem. Haha.

Happy Easter to everyone out in the blogosphere.  It's a wonderful, rainy day!  Last night we had a storm so crazy that the wind alone ripped off a hunk of our fence.  We had to make sure our dog didn't run into our neighbor's yard!  Driving around today, we saw that we weren't the only ones that that had happened to, so I hope everyone's ok and that the damage isn't too severe.  

To celebrate Easter as well as my cousin's birthday, we went over to her house and had a little soiree.  My sister did my makeup, and she tried out a cat-eye using only eyeshadow and no liner, which I've only seen on celebs: 


However, my sister's attempt was successful and made my eyes look awesome! I don't usually wear this much makeup so this was a nice change from the ordinary.

Water for Elephants.

Remember when I talked about how I was reading Water for Elephants here?  Well, it soon became one of my absolute favorite books.  I convinced my sister to read it and so now that the movie is out, my sister, my mom and I all went to the Colleyville Cinema Grill to see it.  We were so excited that we arrived an hour early, and we were first in line for the movie theater.  That's dedication, folks.

After seeing the first trailer, I was so afraid that the film was going to veer away from the story like so many other book-to-movie adaptations have.  However, there weren't many changes, aside from a handful of scenes nearing the end, and most of them weren't a big deal anyway.


Christoph Waltz was the most perfect August there ever was.   After that terrible scene with Rosie, when Jacob confronts August in his train car, I was literally seething in my seat, shaking my head at the screen, muttering to myself, "Don't listen to a word he says, Jacob!"  Yes, he literally got that much of a rise out of me.  Amazing!


Reese Witherspoon was absolutely gorgeous, especially her performance scenes when she's doing her thing in the big top.  I thought she was great for Marlena.  

And judging by the first picture, I'm guessing I don't need to tell you how gorgeous Robert Pattinson was in this movie.  After the show, my mom turned to us and said, 'Edward looked so hot!'  

Maybe it was because I read the book, but I had a lot of emotional reactions to this movie (especially the menagerie scene at the end- I won't say much for those who haven't read the book, but my heart was pounding the entire time!).  There's nothing like seeing one of your favorite books, something you've imagined out in your head as you read, come to life.  

It was a great movie, and you should all go see it!

Crazy stupid love.

I absolutely cannot WAIT to see this movie when it comes out in theaters.  I mean, sure, it looks a little bit cheesy, but obviously it's going to have substance- there ain't no movie starring Steve Carrell, Julianne Moore, Ryan Gosling, and Emma Stone that don' have no substance (ok, I'm done with ghetto talk now).  


Just decide for yourself, will you?

Day 23: my favorite quote? Sheesh. I've sort of got a lot. I love looking up quotes, and I write down all of the ones that mean something to me or change my mood. I'll write down a few of the ones that are especially important to me:

Another thing I want to mention is that today is the anniversary of my Grandpa's death. I miss all of his wonderful stories about his childhood and his life with his kids and with his loving wife, my grandmother, but I know he's up in heaven, watching me create some stories of my own.

I love you, Grandpa, and I miss you to bits.

Dilemma.

I just got my vintage cutoff shorts from Zora Belle on Etsy and they look great!  I can't wait to wear them.  My only problem is.....

They are pretty big on me.  A sizable amount of large-ness.  I don't know why I ordered them so big; I forgot they were men's sizes and not women's.  

Soooo my mother has slapped 'em in the wash, using hot water to shrink 'em, but if that doesn't work then I'm perplexed.  If you have any suggestions, leave a comment!

Day 22.  Something I crave: 

Ummmmm.....good deals.  Macaroni and cheese (all the time).  Chocolate chip pancakes.  And....adventure (haha).  

Can you tell I'm getting a bit tired of this?  No more 30-day-things for Cooper for a while.

Something that makes me different from everyone else: 

I asked my sister (since it was hard to come up with one on my own; it's hard to be objective when we look at ourselves, am I right?) and she told me that what makes me different is that I'm well beyond my years.  

In other words, I'm a bit of an old soul.  

I absolutely hate it when people call themselves that and it's not true, but I guess when it comes to me I can see that.  For one, I have a tender love for vintage/vintage inspired items.  

Example: my prom dress from last year.  

Absolutely loved that thing, even if it did squeeze the life out of me.  The lady I bought it from told me it was from the '70s.  AWESOME.

I guess another reason why is that some of my favorite movies were made decades ago.  

Some I recommend:

Lili (1953)

Embittered, crippled puppeteer Mel Ferrer treats Lili with contempt; only by speaking through his puppets is Ferrer able to express his genuine love for the girl. So good! Leslie Caron's character (and hair) is adorable and Ferrer is so bitter but you end up loving him.

Since the only thing he's ever passed is a football, Tom is in danger of flunking out before the Big Game. Plain-looking Connie (Mary Lawlor) is enlisted to tutor Tom through his final exams, and in the process the two students fall in love -- much to the dismay of campus vamp Patricia (Lola Lane). Managing to finagle a marriage proposal out of Tom, it looks as though Patricia will emerge triumphant, but all is set aright during the lavish Technicolor finale." (Hal Erickson, Fandango.com)

First of all, Connie's character is hilarious- during the song, 'Lucky In Love', she sings: 'Some girls are gay/ Know what to say/ But when I talk I scare the fellas away.'

Love that girl.  And the fashion in this movie is over-the-top '20s (*cough* Tommy's bell-bottoms *cough*) but so top-notch.  Love it all.

Meet Me In St. Louis (1944)

Judy Garland is so cute in this movie, and young! We watched this around Christmastime since a chunk of the movie takes place during the holidays, but it's a year-round film.  Love it.

Others that I love but am too lazy to find pictures of and describe: On The Town, Funny Face, Holiday Inn, An American in Paris, Roman Holiday, Summer Stock, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, etc etc etc.  

That's something a little different about me.  

By the way, my mom bought me an adorable hat (modeled after the one Julia Roberts wears in Eat, Pray, Love) the other day at World Market, and I felt very chic and summery wearing it around Target today.

Had a fun day today.  I told myself that I would read our required reading material for English instead of beginning it and Sparknote-ing the rest like I usually do (terrible habit), but I've fallen in love with a series that I can't extract my attention from!  It's The Mortal Instruments series by Cassandra Clare.  And though Life of Pi is very interesting, I've already started City of Ashes.  I'm a terrible student.  

Regardless, I did stumble across a quote from Life of Pi the other day that I thought was pretty beautiful:

But above all else, I'd probably have to go the mushy route and say my family.  I'm so grateful that I get to live with a group of people that are just as strange as me.
